“Couldn’t Add. Please Go to Mi Community to Apply for Authorization” Fix
Seeing “Couldn’t add. Please go to Mi Community to apply for authorization” in Mi Unlock status? It means Xiaomi has not approved your account to unlock this phone yet. Here is why, and how to fix it.
Updated: October 14, 2026
Quick fix
- Apply for unlock permission in the Xiaomi Community app (region: Global).
- After approval, wait 1 to 2 days.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and bind again in Mi Unlock status using mobile data.
- Still failing? Check that your phone, ROM and Mi Account are all from the same region.
What this error means
You see this message on the phone when you tap Add account and device in Mi Unlock status. Xiaomi’s server is saying your account is not allowed to unlock this phone yet.
Full message: “Couldn’t add. Please go to Mi Community to apply for authorization.” It is not a problem with your PC or Mi Unlock Tool, so reinstalling drivers won’t help.
Common causes
| Cause | How to tell | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No unlock permission yet | HyperOS phone, never applied in the Community app | Fix 1 |
| Approved too recently | You were approved today or yesterday | Fix 2 |
| Account too new or unused | Mi Account created in the last few weeks | Fix 3 |
| Region mismatch | China phone with global account, or the opposite | Fix 4 |
| Phone not from an official channel | Grey-market or reflashed phone | Fix 5 |
Fix 1: Apply for permission in the Xiaomi Community app
On HyperOS phones, this step is required. Without it, Mi Unlock status will always show this error.
- Install Xiaomi Community from the Play Store.
- Open Me > Settings > Region and choose Global.
- Sign in with the same Mi Account that is on your phone.
- Go back to Me, open Unlock bootloader and tap Apply.
- Answer the short quiz if it appears, then wait for approval.
Best time to apply: the daily quota resets at midnight Beijing time (GMT+8). That is 9:00 PM in Pakistan, 9:30 PM in India and 8:00 PM in UAE. If you see “quota limit reached”, try again right after that time.
Fix 2: Wait after approval, then bind again
Approval in the Community app doesn’t reach Mi Unlock status instantly. Many users get this error because they try to bind right after being approved.
- Wait 1 to 2 days after you see the approval.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and turn on mobile data.
- Open Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > Mi Unlock status.
- Tap Add account and device once. Don’t keep tapping.
Fix 3: Use an older, active Mi Account
Xiaomi is stricter with new accounts. Users widely report that accounts younger than about 30 days fail more often.
- Keep the account signed in on the phone with a working SIM.
- Turn on Find Device in Xiaomi Cloud.
- Add a phone number and recovery email to the account.
- Use the phone normally for a few weeks, then apply again.
Fix 4: Match the phone, ROM and account region
Xiaomi’s global unlock process only works when everything is “global”:
- The phone is a global model, not a China model.
- It runs an official global ROM.
- The Mi Account was registered outside Mainland China.
A China phone needs a China account and the China community process. If you are not sure which model you have, check Settings > About phone. ROM versions ending in CNXM are China ROMs.
Fix 5: Check where the phone was bought
If the phone came from an unofficial seller or was reflashed to another region, Xiaomi may not have a sales record for it. In that case, the server keeps refusing.
The only real fix is to contact Xiaomi support or visit an official service center with the box and purchase bill. They can check the device record.
