Mi Unlock Tool Latest Version Download

Mi Unlock Tool is Xiaomi’s free Windows program for unlocking the bootloader on Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco phones and tablets. It is also called Mi Flash Unlock or miflash_unlock.

  • 100% free
  • From Xiaomi’s server
  • No password
  • 20+ error fixes

What is Mi Unlock Tool?

Mi Unlock Tool is a small Windows program made by Xiaomi. It checks your Mi Account with Xiaomi’s servers and, if you are allowed, unlocks the phone’s bootloader.

That is the only thing it does. It does not flash ROMs, remove FRP, or reset a Mi Account. For flashing, you need Mi Flash Tool, which is a different program.

Why unlock the bootloader?

Xiaomi locks the bootloader on every phone to keep the system safe. Unlocking it lets you:

  • Install a custom ROM like Xiaomi.eu or LineageOS
  • Flash a custom recovery like TWRP
  • Root the phone with Magisk
  • Switch a phone from one regional ROM to another

What you lose after unlocking

  • All data is erased. There is no way to unlock without a wipe.
  • Some banking and payment apps may stop working.
  • Find Device and some security features turn off.
  • HyperOS updates may stop until you lock the bootloader again.

How to install Mi Unlock Tool on PC

There is no setup wizard. You extract the ZIP and run the program.

  1. Download the ZIP

Get the Mi Unlock Tool ZIP from the download box above.

  2. Extract it

Right-click and choose Extract All. Keep the folder name short, like C:\MiUnlock.

  3. Run the tool

Open the folder and run miflash_unlock.exe. Click Agree on the terms screen.

  4. Install drivers

Click the gear icon at the top right and press Install next to the driver option.

  5. Sign in

Sign in with your Mi Account.

A long folder name, or one with special characters, can stop the tool from seeing your phone.

How to use Mi Unlock Tool (step by step)

Do these steps in order. On HyperOS phones, do step 1 first or the unlock will fail. Want more detail and a video? See our step-by-step guide to unlock the bootloader on Xiaomi.

  1. Get unlock permission (HyperOS phones)

Install the Xiaomi Community app. Set the region to Global, sign in, and open Unlock bootloader. Tap Apply and complete Xiaomi’s short quiz if asked.

On older MIUI phones this step is not needed.

  2. Enable Developer options

Go to Settings > About phone and tap OS version (or MIUI version) 7 times. You will see “You are now a developer”.

  3. Turn on OEM unlocking and USB debugging

Go to Settings > Additional settings > Developer options. Turn on OEM unlocking and USB debugging.

  4. Bind your Mi Account to the phone

Turn off Wi-Fi and turn on mobile data. In Developer options, open Mi Unlock status and tap Add account and device. Wait for “Added successfully”.

  5. Boot into Fastboot mode

Power off the phone. Hold Volume Down + Power until the Fastboot screen appears.

  6. Connect and unlock

Connect the phone to the PC. When the tool shows Phone connected, click Unlock and confirm the warnings.

If your account is ready, the unlock takes under a minute. The phone resets and restarts with an unlocked bootloader.

Mi unlock waiting time (168 hours)

On the first try, most users see “Please unlock 168 hours later”. This is a security wait, not an error.

  • Keep the same Mi Account signed in on the phone.
  • Don’t reset the phone or remove the account, or the timer can restart.
  • Come back after the time shown in the tool and repeat the last step.

Some accounts get a longer wait. You may also see “Binding time is too short” if you try within 72 hours of binding.

Unlock limits per Mi Account

Xiaomi limits how many phones one account can unlock. Users commonly report about one device per month and only a few per year.

There is also a PC-side limit. Error 90000 appears when one computer has already unlocked several devices. If you unlock many phones as a technician, keep this in mind.

HyperOS bootloader unlock rules

Xiaomi made unlocking stricter with HyperOS. For the global process:

  • The phone must be a global model running an official global ROM.
  • Your Mi Account must be registered outside Mainland China.
  • You must get permission in the Xiaomi Community app first.
  • A global phone bought and running a global ROM in China may still be refused.

Xiaomi has also said unlocked phones may not get official HyperOS updates. Updates return once you relock the bootloader.

These rules change often. Check the latest Xiaomi Community post before you begin.

Mi Unlock Tool errors and fixes

Most errors come from four things: account binding, drivers, the network, or a non-stock ROM. Type your error message or code to find the fix.

Mi Unlock Tool not detecting phone

If the tool keeps showing “Phone not connected”, work through this list in order.

  1. Check Fastboot mode

The phone must show the Fastboot screen, not the normal home screen.

  2. Install drivers again

Use the gear icon. A restart is usually not needed.

  3. Change the cable

Cheap or old cables are the most common cause.

  4. Change the USB port

Use USB 2.0 if your PC has one.

  5. Try another PC

Intel-based 64-bit PCs give the fewest problems.

If none of these work, the phone’s USB port may be damaged. A repair shop can check it.

Can’t change country code at login

Some users can’t pick a country code on the phone number login screen. Sign in with your email instead, or change the tool’s language to match your country.

Supported devices

Mi Unlock Tool works with Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco phones and tablets that use Xiaomi’s bootloader lock.

Mi Unlock Tool for Mac, Linux and Android

The official tool runs only on Windows. Xiaomi has no Mac, Linux or Android version.

  • Mac and Linux: use a Windows PC, or Windows in a virtual machine.
  • Open-source tools: projects on GitHub can request the unlock from Mac, Linux, or a second Android phone via Termux. They are not made by Xiaomi, so use them at your own risk.
  • APK files: there is no official Mi Unlock APK. Avoid apps that claim to be one.

Official vs modified Mi Unlock Tool

You will see “modified”, “unofficial” or “no 168 hours” versions online. We don’t recommend them.

  • Many contain viruses or password stealers.
  • They can brick the phone mid-unlock.
  • They can get your Mi Account flagged.
  • Most don’t work on HyperOS at all.

The official tool is free. A few days of waiting is better than a dead phone.

Forgot your Mi Account? Recover it officially

Mi Unlock Tool does not remove a Mi Account or FRP lock. Those locks protect phones that are lost or stolen.

If you forgot your own password, use Forgot password on Xiaomi’s account page with your phone number or email. If that fails, visit an official Xiaomi service center with the box and purchase bill.
